Keep putting it off and putting it off and… (Welcome Back!)

Quite frankly I’ve been meaning to make this post for atleast the past month or two (or three) but I seemed to slip away from the whole blog thing for awhile there. The site’s not going away or anything like that, I just fail to update from time to time (and sometimes unfortunately, like in this case, extended time). I would have liked to share my take on some E3 titles and updates while the event was still completely fresh but I’ll still try my best to cover some upcoming titles. On that note, let’s talk about a couple things…

First off, Xbox Live’s annual Summer of Arcade is in full swing I’m sure you’re aware by now.

I’m sure you’re also probably well aware that the price of all titles shot up to $15 this year (last year only a couple were this high) which I wasn’t too impressed about. I was interested in Limbo and the new Castlevania game from the start, the rest were rather MEH to me. I played the Limbo demo when it came out but I have yet to pick it up. Considering I haven’t paid $15 for an arcade game yet I couldn’t warrant a few hours of single player play time (even if it is grand fun) to justify it, I think I’ll wait it out for a sale. I’m still a bit on the fence about the Castlevania game even, which is coming this wednesday. It looks simply awesome because of it’s new co-op and other multiplayer but if I can’t find a good amount of friends off the bat (no pun intended) to play this with I might just wait it out also.

Voting for the fate of Carmine in Gears of War 3 = Cool. Paying $1 for the avatar shirt to vote = Not as cool.

I don’t think I have to go into this one any further…but I will note that both the videos of co-op and the new beast mode are looking pretty bomb so far. EDIT : I just learned through major nelson’s website that the proceeds go towards the charity Child’s Play so not so bad I guess.

Heard of a little thing called the Kinect?

You know, that motion control thingie for the 360 that costs about half the price of a new console. That’s right, Kinect is coming this fall for $150 and as much as I think it’s kinda neat and all I think I’ll have to pass on it for now. Maybe if I was some working class shmoe who had some money burning a hole in his pocket and was looking for a new way to entertain his family with motion controlled animals/dancing/racing etc. outside of the Wii environment I might have been interested. The only thing Kinect related that has piqued my interest so far is Child of Eden and well, since it can be normal controlled as well, I think I’ll forgoe the $150 though. Best of luck to you Microsoft, trying to get a piece of that sweet Wii market.

Next, we all know that Starcraft 2 is out now at last…yet I have not partaked of it at this posting.

Since when have PC games retailed at $60 anyways? Haven’t they always been $50 at maximum? I pray to God that the other 2 titles of the trilogy are nowhere near this price. Hey Blizzard, just because this game took you 10+ friggan years to crank out to us doesn’t give you the right to hose us. Thanks. I know I’ve said this before but the lack of LAN support still pretty much bums me out as it was a big part of my original Starcraft experience. Alas, I’ll check out the sequel soon enough.

On the PS3 front…

I was twidling my thumbs waiting for the next Heavy Rain add-on, feeling less than satisfied by the first one, when low and behold I learn that they’ve been put on complete stop in favor of development on new motion controls for the game. I was not too impressed by this move by Sony (no pun intended…alright, maybe a little), who pushed for the added controls. The Move is pretty cool and all I suppose, though I still think it looks like some fruity microphone or demented bingo dabber of some kind, but is it really worth halting all add-on content completely for some new controls? I’ll let you decide…

I’m gonna be honest, being the bastard and all that I am, I’ve been neglecting my Wii lately.

Hell, I haven’t even played the second No More Heroes OR Super Mario Galaxy 2 yet. I’m sure by the time Metroid : Other M gets here though I’ll hop back on her and show her some new lovin’.

Wrap it up!

I’ve been playing Secret Armory on Borderlands lately, thanks to the Xbox Live Deal of the Week that finally had the 2 other add-ons I still needed on sale. Before that Crackdown, which I’ve almost maxed out in gamerscore now. I’ll get in on the second one once I find a decent priced copy.

Lastly, this is also Riskening’s 100th post…which I was trying to think of grand ideas for it but isn’t my return just grand enough for ya?

We’re BACK baby!

And now, the REAL new banner…

Ok, so if you hadn’t figured it out by now, yesterday’s Pennywise banner was part of my April Fools’ Day joke (as well as the project page updates, if you hadn’t clicked the link). Thanks to all those you visited the site yesterday and knowingly or unknowingly participated in my feeble joke. I like to participate in April Fools’ Day so I try to do something whenever I can. I put together this other banner together though with my limited digital art skills instead of going back to bannerless. Joke or not, I guess you could also look at that last banner as a “placeholder” since I didn’t actually whip up the new one until tonight. Hehe… 🙂

One more thing, I can’t end this April Fools’ Day post without posting some of my favorite jokes from yesterday soooooooo…

For a few examples, anyone else have some favorites?

Also, Happy Easter to you guys and gals! Since I probably won’t have much time to post over the next couple days.

What do you think of the new header banner, world?

We were long overdue for a banner at The Riskening so I finally whipped something up.

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty spiffy. There’s just something about Pennywise the Dancing Clown (link full size pic before bannerfication…alright, so it’s not a real word…be quiet) that just fits well with this site. 😀

On that note, more site updates…

Sorry about the even less than usual posting of last month but I was working on some new features for the site including forums, improving user feedback, and possibly a contest or two to also liven things up around the site. I won’t get into the full details here just yet but watch the Projects page for the up-to-date scoop as I start adding these (and further) features into the site.

Fan page whoring (Facebook edition)

If you have facebook account I’m sure you’re familiar with the pages that you can become a fan of things from this to that and God knows how many different pages are out there. Weeeeeeell, let me get to the point. Riskening’s  jumped on the bandwagon and has it’s own page as well now.

Show your support for the site, give feedback, etc. on our new fan page – Facebook

Also, a Da Gaming Mafia one as well.

Thanks for your support!

Riskening 2009 : A Retrospective

The new year is upon us and we should all be looking forward to the next and all it has to offer in entertainment…BUT let’s take a moment to look at the ups and downs of Riskening for the past year, shall we?

January –

My old hosting failed me. (Big surprise…NOT)

February –

CoD : WaW and the start of a beautiful thing… (aka Resident Evil 5 demo)

March –

The old host fails…AGAIN. (surprised yet?)

The Resident Evil 5 coverage begins! (teaming up with my cousin)

…and Continues! (eat it Wesker!)

Nintendo is starting to get the picture (maybe) that we need more space on the Wii than they give us. (how about some more online games too?)

April –

Starting to get excited about Terminator Salvation… (and not disappointed regardless of what the naysayers have to say)

The Anticipated List is starting to take form. (it’ll grow in due time)

The 360 fails by way of the dreaded e74! (and the PS3 gets a little extra lovin while he’s gone)

I give my 2 cents about what was missing from RE5. (still a great game though, I forgive you Capcom)

May –

Tacos at Midnight Doritos disappoint me. (if I wanted to eat some taco seasoning I would’ve just ripped open a bag and chugged some down)

Atleast the Red Dead Redemption trailer picked my spirits up. (and the new gameplay one is even more exciting)

We recieve some sad news about the development team at 3d Realms. (but DNF will push on and maybe we’ll actually be able to play it…someday)

I give my opinion about digital copies… (you know, those things that come with certain DVDs that I’m sure they charge you extra for AND that you have to use before a certain expiration date)

…and the new Eco-box craze. (here’s a hint, they suck)

Japan continues to make awesome commercials. (Oh Japan, you so crazy!)

What better way to celebrate Memorial day than with the first major Modern Warfare 2 trailer? (answer: it doesn’t get much better than that)

We learn a thing or two about game shipping precautions. (this has been a PSA)

The Terminator Salvation game, unlike the movie, disappoints me. (rushing licensed games out the door doesn’t pay, kids)

June –

Nazi Zombies postpones the new Anticipated List. (you win this time zombies!)

3d Realms continues to battle with it’s publisher Take-Two over Duke Nukem Forever. (FIGHT!)

The new look for Max Payne emerges…through several screenshots. (looking pretty scruffy man)

July –

We take a look at some of the latest and greatest titles in terms of Co-op play. (we’re in this together now)

The long overdue Anticipated series is underway at last. First up, Wii! (you know you want these games)

We learn a thing or two about stacking the dead. (in video games…of course)

Hey PS3! You’re up to the Anticipated stand. (bring on the exclusives)

August –

Nazi Zombies threatens the status of the Anticipated series AGAIN. (this time with a little help from Splosion Man)

The Anticipated List is starting to wind down…but not until we get through this feast of multiconsole goodies! (part 1)

September –

The Anticipated series goes out with a BANG! (and a heaping load of upcoming titles)

I try my hand at a DVDs of the week post. (maybe this will even become a regular thing someday?)

A suprisingly good week for us Co-op gamers comes along out of the blue. (it’s about time!)

October –

We took a little break. (hey, if I got paid for this I would be much more adament about keeping up with posts but alas…)

…until we get back into the swing of things with some of my favorite titles of the moment. (atleast my 21st birthday was this month too! 😀 …on the 21st may I add)

November –

I try to get back into DVD picks of the week again. (it was a nice try, right?)

The switch to a new web host begins at last! (and well overdue if you ask me)

…looks like things are going good on the new host, no? (even though it’s not hard to beat the old one)

December –

The Bayonetta demo astounds! (January’s looking to be a good one)

The DGM Wiki goes back online after much neglect. (sorry buddy, atleast you’re all upgraded and cleaned up now, right?)

An Animal Crossing Christmas greeting appears! (Awwww…)

…and there you have it! All the good (games and dvds), the bad (away time) and the ugly (hosting problems) of the year 2009.

from, and have a safe and healthy one.
